Specsavers

Well the two year checkup has come round quickly . But something has changed as it’s been 8 years since I had my glasses .  I remember it as I was about to go to Almunecar and Kim helped me to choose the glasses .  But they discovered something at the back of the eye and referring me to the doctor.  But also got £200 from me for a two pairs of new glasses . Pick them up in two weeks time .

T20 Oval Surrey v Sussex Sharks

Image
After talking to driver Steve on Friday night about cricket I checked it out and there was a T20 match on .  Tony Eileen Steve Paula all busy . But I’m free and it’s bank holiday and it’s a gorgeous day . So bought sausage rolls and scotch egg packed together with my new Decathalon cap ( couldn’t find my broken Albanian sunglasses.  Caught the 1237 and arrived at Vauxhall with hour an half to spare. Enough time to soak up the atmosphere.  Had a wander around the outside and amazed at the prices .£14 fish and chips , £8 sausage , £7.50 beers .glad I had my water and snacks .  Basked in the sun . Moved to another part of the ground no problem . Good atmosphere . Banter between spectator and players .  Here is a picture of self serve beer .  Surrey lost in the last over . Was texting Steve who was listening on radio .  Trains are good but needs to be home as Thames water we’re coming out to fix the drains .

Blocked drain

Image
If I had the tools I would have fixed it myself .  On Tuesday I took away the stones that covered the drain cover . But the two hooks to lift the cover had rusted away so I checked my policy and it’s covered .  Discussed with fellowship friends and Dave B could come around and help Os with flexible rods and Barbara mentioned that she uses her emergency cover regularly.  The guy from the emergency cover was absolutely useless . And in the end he wanted to send out excavation team to dig the manhole up . Sheila’s told i need to lift cover so they can fix blockage . If I could do that I could fix blockage myself !!!!  Called DynoRod he lifted the drain cover and confirmed blockage . Yuk . Now called Thames water .  Finally on Sunday 28 May 1900 Thames Water arrived . The blockage was difficult to move with rods from Graham’s . It was clear at number one Victoria Close so they could jet it.  This is what a clear drain looks like .

The ride last week was a bit tough on the hills up little Switzerland , the turning after Box Hill . So this week glad went the Tony Hopkins , Pam , jill F, Carolyn Beer , Anne Bath , Geoff and Simon .  Stopped for tea in Egham sticky toffee pudding and ice cream . Had to be back by 1700 to meet the drainage people .  65 km in the sun .

Warmshowers Paul

Image
Paul arrived at 0130 on Saturday morning . I came home from a meeting at 0930 with a voicemail saying that he was in Staines and his bike and panniers had not arrived .  We look at maps and planned a route to Cornwall. His preferred route is along the Thames to Reading .then down to Exeter . However didn’t mind taking trains for part of the journey.  His bike arrived on Sunday around 1330 . Fairly intact really . And probably given me some confidence in taking a bike abroad .  He worked as a driver for  https://kiwijourneys.co.nz/  and after our chat I now think that end November is best time to visit Nz  We finished with an Indian in Molesey . A good stay .  A bit more about Paul , He lives on a bus in Nelson NZ and does his stretching and mediation in the morning .Vegetarian . It was quite easy to make food , poached eggs on toast , porridge, veg curry , tuna pastas in home made sauce .
