Post Boxes

Since their introduction in 1853, post boxes have carried the insignia, or cipher, of the monarch reigning at the time of placement

Dates of the reign of British monarchs

Victoria         (1837 - 1901)

Edward VII    (1901 - 1910)

George V      (1910 - 1936)

Edward VIII   (1936)

George VI     (1936 - 1952)

Elizabeth II    ( 1952)

In Walton on Thames and Hersham ,I found a post box with each of the monarch’s cipher. The jewel was the Edward VIII , only 171 surviving in the UK.

It’s been interesting returning from Richmond parkrun and viewing the postboxes to discover the area’s timeline of history.
